DBT SKILLS TRAINING GROUP FOR ADULTS TO LEARN:

DISTRESS TOLERANCE SKILLS

– AN ABSOLUTE MUST IN THE COURSE OF DBT –

The term “distress tolerance skills” is described as an individual’s capacity/ability to ‘tolerate their distress in a skillful manner’ when they are responding to a very distressing experience instead of ‘actively avoiding or fighting it’.  Therefore, learning these skills improves and or increases a persons capacity to skillfully manage their distress by ‘tolerating their distress” and improving overall their outcomes positively.  Indeed a very difficult and skillful thing to do.

The DBT Distress Tolerance Skills Course is a comprehensive 9-10 week program designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and effectively manage your emotions when in distress. The course specifically focuses on dealing with challenging and overwhelming emotions, particularly within interpersonal relationships during times of conflict.

THE COURSE STARTS ON THE 12TH OF MARCH 2024 AT OUR TOOWONG CLINIC

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) was originally used to treat borderline personality disorder. Now, we know that it can also be helpful in people with a range of disorders including depression, eating disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and addiction. At Michelle Barratt Psychology, we can help our clients learn a variety of skills, thought to help them strengthen their ability to tolerate distress, regulate emotions, communicate effectively, and be mindful and present in a given moment.
